We covered LA band MUNA's haunting single, 'The Grave', quite some time ago. Back then, we compared the trio of Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson to shoegaze-y, psych-pop outfits Warpaint and Hockeysmith; this week, they're showing us a different, more instantly infectious side to their repertoire in new track, 'Promise'. Formed around Gavin's primary-coloured hook, which calls to mind Haim among other established voices on the pop circuit, MUNA bring head-bobbing beats, oscillating funk bass and glitterball synths to the fore. It's a change in scenery, for sure, but whisper it, we think this direction is even more exciting. Big thins are on the horizon for these three. - DC
